Understanding AccuSpell

This topic presents a general overview of how AccuSpell works and where its menus and options can be found. For specific instructions on how to perform an operation, refer to the Help topic that describes that operation.

AccuSpell is designed to run all the time, and to be available for any application in which you want to use it. The only indication that AccuSpell is running, is the checked box in your system tray, in the lower right corner of your screen, as shown in this example:

AccuSpell works with almost any Microsoft Windows application that uses standard edit, rich edit or other popular controls. You can check text in notes and comments sections, subject lines of e-mail messages, and any other text areas in almost any Windows application.

AccuSpell works through the right-mouse menu of the application or document that you are working on. Access to spell checking commands and suggestions, as well as the word lookup and the thesaurus are all added to the normal menu that you see when you right-click the mouse in the document or application. The spelling sub-menu shows the suggestions and possible actions to take, as shown in the example below:

Spell checking is done in "real-time", either as you type (for new documents) or when you open an existing document. AccuSpell instantly checks spelling as each word is displayed on your screen. You do not have to remember to perform a separate step. AccuSpell marks incorrect spellings with a red underline. By right-clicking the mouse on a misspelled word, you can quickly access a list of suggested spellings, or choose to add the word to a custom dictionary.

AccuSpell also provides a way for you to check an entire document at once if you prefer, with one click of the mouse. Sometimes this is a more convenient method; for example, when a document is very long and you do not want to take time inspecting the entire document to identify words marked as errors. The AccuSpell Check All option is available even if you don't see a misspelled word on the screen, as pictured here:

As well as the options added to your applications' right-mouse menus, there are 6 other commonly-used options available in a separate menu which opens when you right-click the mouse on the AccuSpell system tray icon (pictured above). This menu lets you change languages, open the AccuSpell Options Window, and more, with just a few mouse clicks:

The AccuSpell Options Window displays a set of tabs that lets you set preferences for spelling checks, edit custom dictionaries, download language dictionaries, obtain updates to AccuSpell online, customize the way AccuSpell works using advanced options, get product support if you encounter a problem, and purchase and activate trial versions of AccuSpell. You can also access the AccuSpell Options Window by just double-clicking on the system tray icon.
